United Way of the Virginia Peninsula Announces Co-Chairs For Fundraising Campaign

United Way of the Virginia Peninsula (UWVP) announced Conway Sheild of Jones, Blechman, Woltz & Kelly and Gordon Gentry of TowneBank as the co-chairs for UWVP’s 2017-2018 fundraising campaign, Pathways Out of Poverty.

As former campaign chairs and this year’s co-chairs, the main goal of Gentry and Sheild is to drive support for Pathways Out of Poverty, Virginia Peninsula’s impact agenda. Their other responsibilities include leading United Way’s volunteer fundraising cabinet and collaborating with the United Way board, staff and volunteers to draw the attention of current and potential donors.

Gentry states, “Conway and I believe it is our duty to strengthen and support the community we call home, and one good way to do that is through the United Way.”

UWVP also announced the 2018-2019 Campaign Chair as longtime UWVP advocate and friend, Teresa L. Edwards, corporate vice president for the Sentara Healthcare Peninsula & Western Tidewater Region. UWVP claims that they are confident in her ability to build on the great work that Gentry and Sheilds are sure to complete during this year’s campaign season.

“We are continually inspired by the support these leaders have given to the Virginia Peninsula community and to UWVP. Their highly visible engagement has earned recognition of the top philanthropic companies in our area to support Pathways Out of Poverty,” says Steven S. Kast, United Way of the Virginia Peninsula CEO and president.

Kast assures the local community that there is strength in numbers and as the volume of donors continues to increase, the impact of United Way’s campaign will become even stronger on the agencies and individuals who need their help.
